Fishing Report
At The Box 93 cfs, @ WW Gap 287 cfs, @ CR17 472 cfs. The Fork 78 cfs. Recent afternoon rains have help cool the water temps on the Rio down to a more productive range. However, the hatches are still aloof. One day you can find a decent hatch or two, the next you might only spot a handful of flies. Either way, with the low water and high sun, the trout are not as likely to come to the surface for a dry. Nymphing has once again proven to be the best option for a successful catch rate. The flows are too low to float above WW Gap, and only an experienced oarsman should come down through the Rock garden. Too many rocks to get stuck on. The Rio is flowing about 35% of normal right now. The lower flows have allowed us to spot and stalk numerous large fish each day. TIP- Watch for a high-pressure front to move in in the mornings (prior to 2:00 pm). This has been our most productive times. If the low pressure is sitting on the Valley floor it has been shutting the fish down very quickly. /-/-/-/-/ The Fork and small streams are doing much better. Cool water and ample hatches have been providing us with some great wade trips. PMD’s, light stone, Yellow Sallies small caddis are all present and effective dries to fish. With the overall temps being a bit warmer than normal, I think we should see some Hoppers very shortly. /-/-/-/-/ There has been more public pressure this year than ever before. It’s a bit crowded out there at times on certain stretches of river. Please be considerate of other fisherman and give each other lots of room. Thanks, Joel Condren
